Texas live in Lausanne
With White On Blonde, Texas became superstars. Released in 1997, the Scottish band’s fourth album went straight to number one in the UK charts. It spawned five top 10 singles and has sold more than four million physical copies worldwide.
For its 30th anniversary, Texas are celebrating this landmark album with a reissue, the new track Another Way To Cry and an anniversary tour, which stops at the Vaudoise aréna.
A band that has lost none of its strength
At a time when Britpop was all about masculine swagger, the band led by Sharleen Spiteri and Johnny McElhone followed its own musical vision, blending soul, trip-hop and pop melodies. Hits like Say What You Want, Halo and Black Eyed Boy have lost none of their beauty.
Their triumphant set on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury in 2023 proved how alive these songs still are. Despite competition from acts like the Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys, Texas won over a huge crowd. A tour of Britain’s biggest arenas followed, including the largest headline shows of their career.
Four decades after forming, Texas are looking back on their past while bringing new energy. “In the beginning, I told myself: if I can write just one song that outlives me, I’ll be happy,” says Sharleen Spiteri. “Since then, we’ve written quite a few. But it’s not over. There’s still a bit of this story left to tell, and it’s exciting.”
